Considerate Hoteliers Announces 2009/10 Awards Winners
The prestigious Annual Gala Awards Presentation Lunch of the Considerate Hoteliers Association (CHA) was held on Wednesday, 2 June 2010, at The Dorchester, London. Budock Vean Hotel near Falmouth is the new Considerate Hotel of the Year; the Considerate Green Marketing Initiative of the Year Award was won by the Lancaster London; the Considerate Sustainable Food Award was won by Lasswade Country House & Restaurant, Powys and the Considerate Green Team of the Year was presented to The Dorchester London. Jessica Black from Firmdale Hotels was a worthy winner of the Considerate Green Champion of the Year. Two further awards were announced - the Considerate Lifetime Achievement Award was won by Jenny Lock of the Greenbanks Hotel, Norfolk, whilst Raymond Blanc OBE won the first ever Considerate Good Egg of the Year Award which recognises those in the hospitality industry who have inspired and encouraged others to embrace the principles of dedication and willingness to impart to others the need to try their best; that good enough is not good enough; being ultra considerate at all times and finally, helping others achieve excellence in what they do. Catey Award for MD of Considerate Hoteliers Member Hotel
Hearty congratulations to David Morgan-Hewitt, managing director of member hotel The Goring (London), on being awarded the Manager of the Year at the 2010 Caterer & Hotelkeeper Catey Awards. Also to member hotel Dukes who picked up the Best Independent Hotel Marketing Catey for their Bond themed marketing initiative. Consoling themselves for just missing out on the Sustainable Catey, Radisson Blu Edinburgh are shortly to be presented with the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Category by HM The Queen.
Steven Lowy of umi Hotels Wins Coveted Acorn Award
Steven Lowy, founder of CHA member umi Hotels has been awarded a 2010 Acorn Award by 'Caterer & Hotelkeeper' magazine. He is amongst a host of promising young managers thought by their peers to have already made an impression in the industry. Considerate Hoteliers Association Director & Secretary John Firrell said; "Our congratulations go to Steven on his fine achievement and for setting an excellent example to new entrants and other young people already working in the industry to follow." Steven's success follows Acorn Award winners from CHA member hotels in 2009 - Chris Penn of The Cavendish London and Hannah Scott of Strattons (Norfolk).
CHA Congratulates Thames Valley University on Setting the Red Tractor benchmark for UK Hospitality Education

Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme begins 1 April 2010
1 April 2010 heralds the introduction of the Government’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, which will mainly affect larger hotels and companies whose energy expenditure is in excess of £500,000. Participants are identified by their 2008 electricity supplies: if the organisation has a half-hourly electricity meter and consumed at least 6,000 Mega-Watt-hours of qualifying electricity through all of its meters during 2008 (equivalent to an annual electricity bill of around £500,000), then it will need to participate in the scheme by monitoring energy consumption and purchasing allowances. Organisations that qualify for the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme must register for the scheme with the Environment Agency by 30 September 2010. The Considerate Hoteliers Association is delighted to announce its latest strategic alliance - with North Devon-based Dial Green, a leading green UK telecommunications reseller. CHA Members Impress With Award Wins In 2010
Considerate Hoteliers members have begun 2010 in style, gaining a range of impressive accolades. Imago at Burleigh Court (Loughborough) took the Excellence in Social Responsibility Award (Large Hotel) at the recent HRS Awards event and The Cavendish London won the Excellence in Business Management Award (Large Hotel) at the same event. The Best Western Premier Blunsdon House Hotel in Swindon gained a GTBS Gold, and the Lancaster London upgraded from Bronze to Silver GT for London. Meanwhile, the Bingham in Richmond is delighted to announce its first Michelin star.

The Considerate Hoteliers Association has great pleasure in announcing a brand new award category for its prestigious ‘Considerate Hotel of the Year Awards 2009/10’ – launched today and open to all hotels and guest houses n the United Kingdom, with a closing date for entries of Friday, 19 March 2010. For the first time, the CHA’s highly acclaimed annual awards – celebrating the best in environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance – will include ‘The Considerate Green Marketing Initiative of the Year’ award category. Other categories include 'Green Team of the Year 2009', 'Sustainable Food Award of the Year 2009', 'Green Champion of the Year 2009' and the ultimate award - 'Considerate Hotel of the Year 2009'. Gordon Campbell Gray takes on chair of CHA
CHA are delighted to announce that Gordon Campbell Gray of CampbellGray Hotels has assumed the chairmanship of CHA, taking over from Liam Lambert. Association Secretary John Firrell says, "GCG is the perfect fit as Chairman, and we are extremely glad he has agreed to serve as chairman. CHA Forms Strategic Alliance with BAHA
CHA is delighted to announce it has formed a strategic alliance with BAHA (British Association of Hospitality Accountants). The Associations believe they have created a 'win-win' situation and together can advise their members on getting the best financial results out of environmental initiatives, with significant impacts on the bottom line.
